Valerie Upham was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, the youngest of 5 children. She moved to San Diego when she was 21. Jimmy grew up in the communities of Point Loma and Ocean Beach in San Diego where he lives today. He enjoys an active life style with his wife of 25 years and their three boys. Jill, his wife, is a homemaker, enjoys interior design sewing and volunteers her time at the local schools. Presently Jimmy serves on the Board of Management for the Peninsula Family YMCA. He is on the Special Event Sub-committee for the annual Bay-to-Bay rowing and paddling regatta. He also is involved in the Sunset Cliffs Surfing Association and is involved in a number of capacities at the church he attends. After 31 years with the San Diego Fire Department he retired. During his tenure he advanced himself to the position of Battalion Chief. This was done through dedication, a strong work ethic and merit. During his time with the departments Human Resources Division he was recognized as the “Outstanding Customer Service Employee” and received “The Diversity Distinction Award”. This shows his commitment to serving the public, the department and other city agencies. |
